After growing up in farm country on opposite sides of the state, Steve and Carol continue their life long desire to farm. Steve has many years of livestock experience, having grown up on a dairy farm; and Carol grew up on a farm that raised pigs and chickens, boarded horses, and chased cattle from the adjacent farm.
Raising sheep and goats was a natural choice because of Carol’s insatiable love of fiber and fiber animals. The sheep’s wool, mohair from the Angora goats, and fiber from the guard llama provide an unending supply of fiber for the products we offer. We also pick up fleeces throughout our travels that complement what we get from our flock.
The approach at Cross Wind Farm, LLC is to breed our sheep and goats for wool/mohair, conformation, and disposition. They are bred for soundness and manageability, while producing a beautiful, marketable fleece. Ewe lambs and doe kids that we retain as replacements are not bred until they are yearlings. They enjoy a full year of growing and doing the things lambs and kids like to do! Our goal is to keep select ewes and does even after their breeding career so they can grow fleece without the stress of pregnancy and lambing/kidding. Our rams and bucks are selected for fleece characteristics and temperament. We only keep mellow fellows that have a good disposition!
