A Whirlwind Weekend

Where did the week go? My head is still spinning from the whirl of last weekend. On Friday we headed to the west side of the state to the Michigan Fiber Festival (MFF). The MFF I believe is the oldest fiber festival in the state (I could be wrong, but that’s what I heard). On Friday I attended a workshop on writing and publishing your own knitting patterns…hmm, my mind is swirling with tons of ideas. Then Saturday morning  I attended another workshop of making rag rugs. Now I have to shop around for a good sturdy loom because rag rugs are definitely going to be part of my future. Not sure where a loom would go but I’ll squeeze it in somewhere. Saturday afternoon I was the judge for the hand spun skein competition at the MFF. I love judging skein competitions because I can get up close and personal with each skein of lovely hand spun.

Judging the first skein. There were 46 entries.

There are some very talented spinners out there. Some of the skeins were just gorgeous. Continue reading

New Farm Mascot

I’ve never been a cat person, but I think I’m heading in that direction. A major sign is when I can spend too much time at the pet supply store mulling over the cat merchandise. They really suck you in with the cat toys and the feeding systems and the fresher-then-air litter boxes. O.k….back to the real cat issue.

Snow Flower

In April one of the barn cats, Puff, had a litter of four kittens. Two survived and in May they made their way to the top of the hay bales and watched the new world around them. Continue reading

Bees Found a New Home

After two days the swarm of honey bees found  a new home, somewhere. I scheduled a bee keeper to come out and remove the swarm but the bees probably got wind of it and skedaddled. I must admit, I learned a lot about honey bees and they are fascinating. I think when I retire (or maybe sooner) I’ll become a bee keeper. Although I love honey, I don’t eat a lot of it. For the amount of honey I eat, I would need about two bees. So, we’ll see. But my new favorite pet is now….you got it….the honey bee. Hey, some people like elephants, some like penguins, I like honey bees.

Bye bye bees!

God Speed and Happy Landings!
