Our Sheep/Goats

Our sheep and Angora goats are registered through their respective breed associations. We place a high priority on bio security to ensure that our flock is as healthy as possible. The flock is tested for Ovine Progressive Pneumonia (OPP) and Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis (CAE) on a regular basis. All testing has produced negative results! Bluefaced Leicester, Lincoln Longwool, and Romney sheep play a key role in areas of commercial production, meat, and wool.

BFL, Lincoln, and Romney sires used for cross breeding improve the performance in their progeny including larger size, higher lambing percentages, improved wool, better milk production, and improved lamb vigor. BFL, Lincoln, and Romney ewes are excellent mothers and good milk producers.

BFL wool combines length and luster with a lovely softness; Lincoln wool combines length, luster, and tensile strength; and Romney wool provides a wonderful handle and long staple length…it’s great for beginning hand spinners. By itself BFL, Lincoln, and Romney wool is fabulous to work with. It also provides an excellent foundation when blending with other wool or exotic fibers.

Angora goats are like fiber-producing machines and yield approximately 20 to 25 percent of their body weight in soft, luxury, durable mohair each year. This makes Angora goats a very efficient fiber-producing animal. Angora goats are beautiful to look at and also wonderful to touch.

Mohair is a versatile fiber and is found in soft, warm knits and woven fabrics for cold weather, and airy, lightweight fabrics for warm days. Used alone or in blends, mohair adds its unique characteristics to many textures from lofty yarns to rich tweeds and wonderful knits.

Mohair and wool are valued for their flame-resistance feature while keeping heat in during cold weather and acting as a barrier against hot temps in the summer.  Both fibers can be used in many items including (but not limited to) accessories, hats, scarves, boots, slippers, throws, blankets, carpeting, rugs, wigs, and children’s toys.
